Boiler News: IRI purchased by General Electrical Global
General Electric Global has purchased Industrial Risk Insurance (IRI). The new company has eliminated the IRI Code and instead adopted a nationally know Control Safety Code (ASME CSD-1). By accepting the ASME CSD-1 Code, GE-Gap has done away with the “Double Block and Bleed System” and thus eliminated the expensive “vent valve.” In addition to cost, the vent valve can also be a “source of problems.”
According to the CSD-1/GE Gap Code, the “vent valve” is no longer required. Insurance Codes that still specify the IRI code are out of step with what GE-Gap really specifies and may not realize the major additional cost that they are placing on their customers.
